To the Reader
Democracy in Danger is the first book in a series of novels within the espionage genre. This book is also a sequel to the earlier Michael Glasgow novels, with the protagonist Luke Lancaster serving as the new heroic lead. The earlier works were present in the 1960s; these are present in the 2020s.
I began this book in May 2026. I began thinking about such a work for quite some time beforehand, but wasn’t sure where to proceed. To me, the third novel of the Michael Glasgow series excellently concluded, and I didn’t see the need for more. As a result, while I thought the idea of another book sounded fun, I saw it as unnecessary.
Which is why this book is the beginning of a new series. Rather than focus on the adventures of Michael Glasgow, this book focuses on the work of another spy instead. While the earlier books were set in the context of Hollywood and filmmaking, these books are set more consistently in the context of sports. While the earlier books were set predominantly on the West Coast, these are set mostly on the East Coast. And while the earlier novels concerned imminent, international dangers often in the context of acting and drama, these latter works are occasionally set in the world of the NFL.
Of course, some parallels between the two series do exist, and the Michael Glasgow novels are the background to this given work. However, not all romances occur between an agent and a model in a hotel in Los Angeles. Sometimes, love is made by the work of a spy, out to defend Democracy, as he first gazes upon his dream girl, somewhere on the green field of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
This work is for my self-enjoyment, as well as for your delight, dear reader. May this work provide you with an escape from your present troubles, as you follow the tracks of an American agent and his duty to defend the United States of America.
